COVID-19 Response & Management
Energy NZ Limited

Like most other individuals and companies within New Zealand and around the world, our operations have been severely impacted by the rapid onset of the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Business as usual is no longer an option. At this stage we are seeking to minimise the risk to our staff, clients and the wider community, while still providing all services that we are able and allowed to undertake.

We are closely monitoring all developments and announcements from the New Zealand Government and will comply with all requirements. All staff are working remotely, able to provide normal office-based services and can be contacted via mobile or email.

Most of our on-site services will be postponed until Government notification that the crisis is resolved, and travel/contact/workplace restrictions are reduced or removed. Many of our key technical services can be undertaken remotely, and we are hoping that these services can continue uninterrupted in at least some capacity for our clients. Examples of these services include analysis and reporting of power meter data, billing/tariff data and monitoring/ verification of energy savings.

Some of our services — namely Infrared Thermal Imaging — may still be available as an essential component of electrical safety for critical industries, particularly to any plant or process operating at a heightened level of activity and electrical loading due to the current crisis. If you believe that this is needed to continue operating safely, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Where site restrictions for contractors exist, our staff will be working closely with site personnel to ensure our full compliance with any requirements.

To all our clients, our general energy-related advice during this period is:

  1. If increasing production;
    1. Consider increases in loading on supply transformers and their capacity limits
    2. Be aware of higher loading on site equipment and electrical distribution systems
  2. If reducing/stopping production or closing a site;
    1. Carefully check and shut off all plant baseloads to minimise costs over this period — this includes lighting, HVAC and compressed air (if safe to do so)
    2. Check your site baseloads using your online power and gas retailer portal, or metering dashboard

If we can assist in any way during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of the team. To everyone and their families, we wish the best of luck, stay safe, and remember that we’re all in this together.

Sincerely,
The Energy NZ Team
